1st Grade News + Updates, Week of September 3rd - September 6th

Welcome to September!

We can’t believe we’re already into our next month of school. I hope that you enjoyed your Labor Day Weekend :-)

Swimming begins today in PE, and although we are so grateful to have parents show interest, it’s very important that we also have parents signup on the Google Sheets that was sent out this weekend. If parents do not show up on a swimming day the kids can’t get into the pool at all. Thank you so much for your help, it really makes a difference!

PE/Swimming days are Tuesday and Friday 9:40-10:30

Spelling Words have been adjusted to fit the needs of the class. We are going to move forward for the first half of the school year until December with only 4 spelling words a week/ 3-4 letters per word. If you have any questions about this please feel free to reach out!

This weeks spelling words are: bad, red, hop, cut.

In your child’s math period and math homework this week we are continuing identifying groups of numbers between 0-10. We are also focusing on comparing groups of numbers by which is less or more. Try using these two words at home with items around the house to help your child grasp the concept of comparing. :-)

There is a lot going on this week at Salesian, and unfortunately this Friday I will not be at school due to a wedding in the family (my brother!). Your child will have a substitute, and I will make sure to prepare them for this since it will be their first of the school year!

This week at Salesian:

  • Tuesday - Book Fair begins, Swimming begins

  • Wednesday - Greeting Sister Chantal in morning assembly (please send your child in full dress uniform looking sharp!) , Adoration + Divine Mercy after recess, Yogurtland in Watsonville 3:30-6:30 20% of proceeds will be donated to Salesian

  • Friday - Grandparent’s Day! (Mrs. Settles out). Please send your child to school in their uniform and a change for PE/Swimming. Mass at 11:00 am with Bishop Danny Garcia. It will be a special celebration with Sister Chantal also in attendance. Please bring a picnic lunch to follow Mass on the lawn. Also you are more than welcome to leave with your student following lunch if you’d like! Please just let Sister Carmen, Mrs. Lobue, or whoever the Substitute ends up being on Friday. I’ll try to find out who that is and update that here if I can!

Thank you for all you do!

Mrs. Settles :-)
