Dear Friends and Family of Salesian School,
We are excited to announce the Second Annual Salesian Derby, an event that promises to bring our community together for a day of fun, fellowship, and a little friendly competition! This year’s Derby will take place on May 3rd from 2-6PM on the beautiful Salesian campus, and we would love for you to join us.
The Salesian Derby will be a day filled with delicious food and exciting activities! Enjoy a selection of Derby fare, including pimento cheese dip, bourbon-spiced nuts, and Kentucky hot-brown mac and cheese. The talented crew from 5LRM BBQ will be grilling up their famous tri-tip and portabella mushroom sandwiches. Traditional mint juleps will be served, and the atmosphere will be lively and full of spirit.
For those who like to dress up, there will be a contest for the Most Dapper Gentleman and the Darlingest Derby Gal. Be sure to put on your best Derby attire and get ready for a day of fun, fashion, and flair! Additionally, there will be a betting contest where you can place your wagers on which horse and jockey will take home this year's winnings.
Supporting Our School: Improving the Bell System
In addition to celebrating the Derby and enjoying a beautiful spring day together, we are also raising funds to help improve the bell system for our campus, which is currently in disrepair. A fully functioning bell system is essential for the safety of our students and faculty. The funds raised during the Derby will go directly toward repairing and upgrading this vital technology.
As we look ahead to this exciting event, we are reaching out to our wonderful community to request donations that will help make this day even more special. We are hoping that, through your connections and generosity, we can get many of the food items donated for the event. This will allow us to direct the funds raised from ticket sales toward supporting the school and the much-needed sound system improvements. Your contributions will make a big difference, and together, we can ensure that the event is a success while supporting the future of our students.
If you are able to donate or help in any way, please contact Meegan Gregg at salesianderbyparty@salesianschool.org
We are incredibly grateful for your continued support and look forward to seeing you at the Second Annual Salesian Derby!
With appreciation,
Sr. Carmen Botello, FMA

1. What should I wear to the event?
This is a Derby-themed event, so guests are encouraged to dress in their best Southern-inspired attire! Think colorful dresses, big hats, and fascinators for ladies and tweed or seersucker suits, bow ties, or fedoras for gentlemen. There will even be a Best Dressed Contest for the Most Dapper Dude & Darlingest Derby Gal!
2. What does my “ticket” include?
Since admission is FREE, there is no ticket needed to come join us. Purchasing “Betting Tickets” allows you to participate in the Derby Betting Contest, in which 100% of the proceeds goes toward school fundraising whether you win or lose the bet. Also, Betting Tickets is not related to food/drink pre-purchases. Appetizers, Ice Tea and Lemonade are FREE, however Lunch (BBQ) & specialty drinks like mint juleps, wine and beer are available for purchase on-site or pre-purchase online.
3. How does the betting contest work?
For fun and friendly competition, guests can "bet" on a horse according to the realtime Kentucky Derby Race happening that day. While no actual gambling takes place, winners will receive non-monetary prizes for selecting the correct horse. It’s all in good spirit to add excitement to the event while supporting the cause!
4. Can I bring my kids? parents or non-Salesian family members?
Yes, the more the merrier, plus we’ve prepared meals, free Lemonade and Iced Tea for the kids as well. Salesian School is OPEN TO ALL, and this event espouses the spirit.
5. I’m not familiar nor particularly interested with The Kentucky Derby or any horse racing event, but interested in the social gathering aspects for my kids.
That’s great! Then this event will be a perfect introduction to what the Derby is about, but most importantly, it is a chance for us to foster a positive sense of community together. Come for the vibes, let the kids play, hang with the Salesian Sisters and other adults, and just enjoy the festivities!
6. How will the funds raised from the winnings be used?
All proceeds will go directly toward upgrading our school bell system, ensuring our students can all hear and respond when it rings. Every ticket purchased and donation makes a tangible impact on the school's safety infrastructure.
7. Okay one more time, how do I get tickets again? Do I need to buy them online and pre-order meals and drinks at the same time?
Admission is FREE, so you can simply come in and purchase Betting Tickets, food and beverages onsite. We encourage pre-purchasing them if you are sure to attend and would like to avoid waiting in line when purchasing Betting Tickets or food/beverage onsite. Otherwise, we are able to process credit card payments at school using Square.
8. Will there be enough parking for cars/trucks? is it easy to get in and out?
We’ll have Free Parking on the basketball courts, the periphery of the soccer field (turn left before Art building), and curbs of carpool lane. It is always interesting to navigate and get around but is nothing too special.
