Weekly Update 2/18/2020
/Good morning parents,
I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend. We have a few updates for this week:
As a reminder, tomorrow, Wednesday February 19th, student council will be holding a bake sale fundraiser for girls athletics at carpool in the morning. They will be offering coffee and hot chocolate for $2, and baked goods for $1.
Please review the student handbook for proper dress code- on full dress uniform days, students should be wearing all black shoes with plain, white crew socks (no logos). Girls should not be wearing nail polish, and any bows in their hair should be school colors (blue, white, or plaid). If you are confused or unsure about anything, you can find details regarding the dress code in the student handbook, found under the “Students” tab of the website.
To our kindergarten parents- I wanted to make a small adjustment to our homework from here until the end of the school year. When completing the “Skills Practice” pages, rather than having your student just write the letter associated with the picture, I ask that they now try to spell out the full word. We are far past the point of only letters, and I would like to see them practicing their segmenting (breaking words into individual sounds) skills. I want to stress that they do not have to spell the word correctly. At this level, they are going to leave out a significant number of letters especially when working with longer words. The most important part is that I see that they are trying to sound out the word. For example, one picture in the homework this week is of an elephant- I had the students spell it out for me and the result was, “elephnt”. This shows me they are breaking the word down into important sounds.
Also, as a quick reminder, invitations and details for our Mardi Gras Pancake Breakfast went out last week- Mrs. Henderson has requested that you RSVP for your family by this Thursday if you would like to attend, so we can have accurate numbers for food. Thanks so much!
Have a great week,
Miss Jones
