Week of November 15th - 19th, 2021 - 1st Grade News + Updates
/Welcome to another week, first grade families!
November is a time of thankfulness and gratitude for all life has blessed us with. This week your child will be focusing on the theme of friendship, and what it means to be a friend to others, and how to reap the benefits of true friendship.
This week is also Parent-Teacher Conferences! I am looking forward to meeting with you in person at Salesian at your specified time slot. Please reach out if you need a reminder for your meeting time. The conferences will be 20 minutes each, and many of mine will be back-to-back, so please try to be right on time! :-) Wednesday through Friday will be minimum days, carpool will be at 12:00 pm.
This week your child is focusing on s-blends and diagraphs (sh + th) in language arts. We are also going to be learning a poem/song called “I Am Thankful” in class. It has a focus on rhyming, and a theme of thankfulness. This will also be a part of their homework packet, and something they can work on each night at home. In social studies we are finishing up our Long Ago + Today unit. In science we are going to be talking about the weather systems and the seasons of the year. We also will talk about fall leaves, and the different parts of a leaf. In math we are focusing on double digit addition (without carrying), and the subtraction strategy of counting backwards to find their answer. (For example, for 8-2, they would use their fingers to count backwards from 8 to get 6 fingers, and the answer of 6. In Religion we are focused on traits of a great friend, with our theme of the Friendship Feast next week.
Next Week:
The Friendship Feast is next Monday, Nov. 22. Your child will enjoy a meal provided by the TK-1st grade teachers/Room Parents. We will be sure to take lots of pictures for you :-)
Thanksgiving Mass on Tuesday 11/23 - Please send your child in full dress uniform. Tuesday is also a half day, 12:00 pm carpool.
Thanksgiving Break will begin Wed. 11/24-11/28. School Resumes on Monday Nov. 29th.
I hope you have a wonderful end to November, and I’m looking forward to meeting with you all this week!
