Into The New Year!!!

Joyful Advent! Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!

Whenever you find yourself reading this, I pray you are healthy and happy! I am very thankful for your child and family in my life and only hope to grow more together in this year!

We know that we are all ready for a break AND for some that break can be a challenge with children in the home and parents at work! Sister Carmen has asked for us to suggest some review for the children (not assignments, not homework). These are a few academic suggestions to keep your child occupied as needed and ready to return to school.

1) My first suggestion is just to snuggle up and read! Some might like to wrap a book up for each of the 12 Days of Christmas? Maybe a special trip to the library with a stop for coco? Make a new special spot near your tree for Christmas stories? Maybe a trip to a new/used book shop and a special treat of a big stack of books? Maybe a set story time with a special person/grandparent/sitter? 30 minutes a sitting would be awesome!

2) I am including an official list of Dolch Sight Words. WARNING! Take them on slowly! Start with one list and see how many they already know. After you have a good idea of their starting point, add only three to five words in a sitting. 15 minutes max per sitting!

PRE-K: a, and, away, big, blue, can, come, down, find, for, funny, go, help, here, I, in, is, it, jump, little, look, make, me, my, not, one, play, red, run, said, see, the, three, to, two, up, we, where, yellow, you

KINDER: all, am, are, at, ate, be, black, brown, but, came, did, do, eat, four, get, good, have, he, into, like, must, new, no, now, on, our, out, please, pretty, ran, ride, saw, say, she, so, soon, that, there, they, this, too, under, want, was, well, went, what, white, who, will, with, yes

3) Counting and writing numbers to 100! Maybe do sets of 10? Maybe make a long train of notecards? Maybe buy a number line puzzle? Maybe fill in a 10 x 10 chart?

All My Best,

Mrs. Shannon Lenz
