Final Message

Hello parents,

It is hard to believe we have finished the school year, with everything being the way it is. Again I would like to thank you for sharing your children with me and allowing me to bring learning and love to them through teaching.

To our current kinder families- As we move into summer vacation, it is important to continue some forms of learning in order for the students to retain information before starting first grade. If you navigate to Mrs. Settles’ page, you will find a resource titled “first grade packet”. This summer will be a bit different in that we are not making these packets mandatory to turn in at the beginning of the year- they are there to provide you with material to continue learning at home. In addition to this packet, Mrs. Settles has drafted up a list of recommended reading books. Keep an eye on her page for when those are posted.

To our kinder families starting in the fall- I would like to extend a very big welcome to you! We are so blessed to have you join our Salesian family, and can’t wait to begin learning in August. As we progress through the summer months, the school office will be keeping you up-to-date with the projected plans for the beginning of the school year. At this point, we need to continue with our prayers and hopes for things to return to normal. In the meantime, I have created a list of recommended reading books for your children to enjoy this summer:

  • For our readers: If your student is starting kindergarten with a solid foundation of letter sounds, “Bob Books” are great little sets of books to introduce students to basic three letter word reading. They come in sets of 12 books and vary in range from “pre-reading skills” to “long vowels”. I suggest having your student work on the “My First Bob Books: Pre-Reading Skills” and “My First Bob Books: Alphabet”

  • To enjoy as a family: At this stage in your child’s reading development, any form of reading (together, independently, or even just a picture walk where students tell a story based on the pictures they see) will help develop their reading skills. Here is a list of books to enjoy together:

    • “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” by Joseph Slimak

    • “Horton Hears a Who” by Dr. Seuss

    • “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn

    • “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Seuss

    • “Too Shy for Show-and-Tell” by Beth Bracken

    • “Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready For Kindergarten” by Joseph Slate

    • “On the First Day of Kindergarten” by Tish Rabe

Finally, we are very excited to announce that Salesian will be purchasing the school supplies required for the 2020-2021 academic year. The only thing you will be responsible for is your student’s backpack. We hope you all have a very wonderful summer and we will be counting down the days until we see you again!
