Updates For the New School Year

It has been such a wonderful first two days with the students. We have been working hard learning our class rules, procedures, and routine. I have a few updates and announcements as we begin this new school year:
Website and Homework- I will post weekly updates, announcements, and homework every Monday on our class website. Kinders will be starting homework Monday, August 26th- every Monday I will send home a packet for the whole week in their folder that includes an outline of which assignments your child should be doing on which day. Homework will reflect the activities and work we have done in the classroom that day, as well as nightly reading. At this level, reading can be: an adult reading to the child, picture walks in which the child reads and tells the story by looking at the pictures, or shared reading. Please make sure your child does the specified homework for the night, rather than waiting until the last day or doing it all at once at the beginning of the week. The goal for the homework packets is to concrete the information they learned in class as well as develop effective academic habits. Have your child keep this packet at home until Friday when they will turn it in to me. The completion of the packet will be submitted into Gradelink as a grade.
Folders- Please send your student's folder (with the velcro) to school every day; I will use these to send home any flyers or paperwork. (I know some of you are still waiting for these folders to come in so, if this is the case, don't worry about this for now).
School Uniform: All elementary students must be in compliance with the Salesian School Uniform as stated in the handbook. Please make sure your student is coming to school in white socks, completely black shoes (no other colors unless they are their PE shoes) and vests over their polos. Let’s take pride in our school uniform!
PE Days- Please note that one of our PE days has been changed: we will now have PE on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:50 to 11:40.
Mass- We will be celebrating the Assumption of Mary Liturgy tomorrow at 11:00 am in our chapel. If you are available to join us, please join us as we celebrate the Blessed Mother. Please note that on Mass days, students should come to school in full dress uniform.
Pizza Fridays- Every Friday, student council offers a pizza hot lunch for students to purchase. Pizza is $2 per slice of pepperoni or cheese. For this week, if you would like to order pizza for your child please send me the money and order tomorrow morning (Thursday). Any money that is brought in after 12:00 tomorrow will not be accepted.
Siesta- Everyday after lunch, our students take a "siesta" in order to give them some rest time in the afternoon. The school will have sleeping mats available for purchase, but until we have all the information for those please send your child with a small blanket.
