1st Grade Weekly Home-Learning Lesson Plans - August 10th - August 14th

1st Grade Lesson Plans
Week of August 10th - August 14
Monday 8/10
On our first day of school (and Tuesday and Wednesday) we will have a minimum day, ending at 12:00 pm.
Our schedule for the first day of school is below:
8:55 - 9:15 - Schoolwide Assembly/ Attendance on Google Meet
9:15 - 9:45 - Circle Time/ Class Rules + Procedures
During circle time your child will get the chance to get to know me better, and time to share with their friends and reflect on the summer and life at home over the past couple months.
They will also learn our Class Rules + Procedures
9:45 - 10:00 - Brain break/ Bathroom break
Brain Breaks will usually include some kind of silly game, physical activity, song singing, meditation or prayer, etc
10:00 - 10:30 - Learning about Seesaw
Your child will be introduced to different icons that appear on Seesaw, and how they function. They will also get to play an “icon house search” activity, where I will send them to find items that have icons on them in your home and return to their screen to share.
10:30 - 11:00 - Snack Break (no screen time)
11:00 - 11:30 - 1st Grade Crown coloring activity
Your child will color the Crown print- out received in their green folder. Your child will cut the crown out when they are finished and they will need your help to glue or tape it together to form a crown that they can wear on their head (you do not need to do this during the meeting).
11:30 - 12:00 - Story Time with Mrs. Settles
For our last lesson of the day your child will be able to sit back and relax while Mrs. Settles reads them a few books. Feel free to let them cuddle up with a blanket. This was a big day for your new 1st Grader!
Tuesday (8/11)

Review what we learned on Monday
10:30 - 11:00 - Snack Break (no screen time)
11:00 - 11:30 - First Day of School packet (sticky with Tuesday on it)
We will work on this packet together as a class on Google Meet. Your child will need their pencil, crayons/colored pencils.
11:30 - 12:00 - Story Time with Mrs. Settles
For our last lesson of the day your child will be able to sit back and relax while Mrs. Settles reads them a few books. Feel free to let them cuddle up with a blanket.
Wednesday (8/12)
8:55 - 9:15 - Schoolwide Assembly/ Attendance on Google Meet
9:15 - 9:45 - Circle Time/ Class Rules + Procedures

Explain that tomorrow + Friday will be a full-day of learning.
9:45 - 10:00 - Brain break/ Bathroom break

10:00 - 10:30 - Trying Seesaw
Mrs. Settles will review how to go on the Seesaw app
Take out whiteboards, whiteboard marker + eraser, and write their name in their neatest handwriting.
Your child will be sent off of Google Meet to take a picture of their whiteboard with their name on it, and upload their picture onto Seesaw. If they need parent help please provide it! Here are steps to help.
Step 1: Press Seesaw App to open
Step 2: Press the green “+” to add an item
Step 3: Select “post student work”
Step 4: Press the camera icon “photo”
Step 5: Take a photo of the whiteboard
Step 6: Press the green “✅” to submit the image
Once your child has completed this task they will be done with this subject until 11:00 when they will sign back into Google Meet for Writing.
10:30 - 11:00 - Snack Break (no screen time)
11:00 - 11:30 - Writing - “In First Grade I want to” (Wednesday sticky)
Mrs. Settles will ask each student what they would like to learn in 1st grade. Each student will have a chance to share.
They will try writing one sentence that matches on their worksheet. (At the beginning of the year I ask them to do their best spelling, but not to worry if it’s not correct.
Draw a picture to match at the top.

Parents - Please cut out (or have your child cut out if they are supervised) the “Lesson 1” row of words on pg. 439 for your child to use during this lesson. *I suggest keeping these in a plastic baggy to stay organized*.
10:30 - 11:00 - Snack Break (no screen time)
11:00 - 11:40 - Science
Ask what each student knows about science. What do you think you’ll learn about in science? Why is science important? Explain why the weather and nature is a part of science.
Explore the science textbook
Mrs. Settles will send students off to use Seesaw. They will go in their front or backyard (with permission from parents) to take a picture of something in nature and post it onto their Seesaw journal.
