1st Grade News - Week of August 3rd - August 7th - Home Learning
/Hello 1st Grade Families!
I am so excited to begin a new school year with your children. Salesian and our faculty have been working hard to ensure that we can provide our 1st graders with a well-rounded education whether we are in the classroom or in our homes. While we will be starting the school year from home, we are prepared to make the transition back to the classroom when it can be done safely for our whole Salesian community.
During Home Learning your child will be held to similar behavior standards as in the classroom, and below you will find the TK-2nd grade procedures that we’d like for you to review with your child prior to our first day of school. Our school days will consist of two main online-learning tools, Google Meet and the Seesaw platform. I encourage you to watch the two video tutorials below to familiarize yourself and your child with these two sites. In order for me to teach your child every day, your child will need to be able to attend our Google Meet video calls, so it’s incredibly important to understand how to log on! I am here to help, and will be providing instructions for our first day of learning, including them in your child’s materials this Saturday. Our first week of school I will be teaching your child step-by-step how to use Seesaw before we jump into using it. I understand that this is completely new to most of you, and I am devoted to making sure your child feels comfortable using both Google Meets and Seesaw. I have also attached a link to our Home Learning Schedule. This schedule is open to flexibility. We will be testing out how it feels, and readjusting if needed. Lastly, I highly suggest purchasing a pair of headphones with a microphone for their Home Learning. This will help your child truly focus on their education.
Our first three days of school (Monday 8/10, Tuesday 8/11, Wednesday 8/12) will be minimum days, ending at 12:00 pm. I will be sending home our minimum day schedules on Saturday. We want to ease our way into Home Learning, and spend this time introducing our online platforms, reinforcing our class rules and procedures, and of course getting to know each other!
I am so thrilled to be your child’s 1st grade teacher, and it truly is an honor to me. I love my job, and I love my students. I guarantee, especially during this uncertain time in our world, that your child will know whether we are home or in the classroom, that they are in the best hands at Salesian and with me as their teacher. I am here and available to answer any questions that come up. Please try to submit your response to the survey that I sent to your email today, which will help me understand each of your unique situations. I am looking forward to meeting with you this weekend!
Best,
Mrs. Settles :-)
