Marching into Lent, CVC Reading, Writing, Subtraction, Seeds and STEAM!
/Hello Families,
Busy, busy, busy over here! As we jump into March we find the Kinders very busy with a full bloom of new concepts!
Can you believe that we are already past the 3rd Friday of Lent and Holy Week will be at the end of the month? The kids and I have been using the Sorrowful Rosary Mysteries to start thinking about The Stations of The Cross and what will become Jesus’ Passion. All of this so we can celebrate Easter! This can be an emotional time for kids but we get to celebrate Easter because we know the full story!
We have been talking all of February about different methods of addition and we will be beginning Subtraction with similar methods. There has been counting on fingers and counting on a number line. We have made “jelly bean” drawings and “domino” drawings. Kids have been using blocks on a plate to make rods of 10’s and 1’s. So many ideas that could be just the right one for your child!
Most all of the Kinders are now CVC reading, which means they are sounding their way out on simple texts such as our readers or BOB Books. It is awesome to hear their reading voices.
You may have noticed that we have shifted from labeling pictures to listing and from listing into our “Sticker Stories”. You will see that the kids use a sticker set as a story starter. They draw a detailed picture and come to us for sentences. They then get to write their own words with low frustration and big ideas. You will love how this quickly progresses for many of them!
The kids were very excited to plant new seeds at our school’s Life Lab! We will soon have flower and veggie starters!
Lastly we will be entering our conversations about STEAM! Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Match! Kids and I will be talking about movement, force and measure. We will be sending home instructions on how to make Leprechaun Traps!
All My Best,
Ms. Shannon Lenz
