Winter of Wonder

January is here and we have much to be thankful for including that I am starting to hear “Reading Voices” in the room! From here on out it is all about tracking with either a smooth finger across a line or a pointed single finger at each word! We will also start paying close attention to spacing and formation of letters in our writing! It is super exciting for Mrs. M and I to hear this blossoming around us!

Speaking of Mrs. M she will be taking over “Calendar Time” with the kids for about 15-20 minutes of the day. While she supervises snack eating, toileting and recess play with this additional 15-20 minutes, I can slip out and resume teaching Language Arts in 1st Grade.

In Math we are really trying to focus on the skill of counting to ten and ones to learn place value. Believe it or not, this is a tough concept for them and much needed to count coins and time.

During the month of January and February we take time to talk about our Famous Americans like MLK Jr. and our Presidents. It is a great time to talk about careers, community and kindness in our spaces.

Winter, weather and winter shelters are all part of our Science talks. Ms. Lenz is always on the lookout for snow and our school as always provides us with much to observe.
