Hello Families,
During our first week of school, it was a pleasure to get to know your child! Everyone participated actively and was well prepared for class. We had fun sharing jokes and riddles - I hope they’ll keep them coming for our brain breaks! Between subjects, we may also stretch, play a short game, pray, and as one child suggested, “We can think thoughts that calm us.”
This week we’ll move further into our academic program which includes homework. Your child will have homework every night, Monday through Thursday. At this time, homework includes math in their workbook, and the all important 20 minutes minimum of self-selected reading. Students will need to fill out their Reading Log, Monday-Thursday. Students can read to themselves, to you, a pet, or a stuffed animal. It’s excellent to read aloud as well as to themselves. If the homework seems too easy or your child is looking for something else to do, studying math facts or vocabulary/spelling words or reading are always great options. I’m trying to keep their homework time short so students have time to get outside and enjoy family time.

Monday:
Math Workbook pp. 7-9 (#1-#3 required and #4 on p. 9 optional)
Read - minimum 20 minutes and fill out Reading Log
Tuesday:
Math Workbook pp. 10-11
Read - minimum 20 minutes and fill out Reading Log
Wednesday:
Math Workbook p. 12 required (p. 13 optional)
Read - minimum 20 minutes and fill out Reading Log
Thursday:
Math Workbook p. 14 required (pp. 15-16 optional)
Read - minimum 20 minutes and fill out Reading Log
Vocabulary/Spelling -
We will be having a vocabulary/spelling test every other week on Thursday, starting next week.
The test is to make a sentence with each vocabulary word and spell the vocabulary words correctly. The first vocabulary list is on pages 8 and 9 in the Vocabulary Workshop book.
Chromebook User Agreement -
There are two Chromebook forms that need to be signed. Students need to sign the Chromebook User Agreement form. Parents please sign the Chromebook Agreement form (front and back). Both signed forms need to be returned to me by email or paper mail to the school.
Seesaw -
Seesaw is an educational platform for teachers and students that our school is using. Students “show what they know” using photos, videos, drawings, text, PDFs, and links.
Initially, I will use Seesaw for students to turn in assignments. Beginning today on Seesaw, I will be posting the weekly homework assignments and information about our class. Each student has an account already set up, and the account information is on an index card in their work folder. The Chromebook has a Seesaw bookmark.
XtraMath -
For practice with math facts at home, I bookmarked XtraMath (xtramath.org) on each student’s Chromebook. We realize that your student is on-line with school for many hours, so we do not want to require even more time on the computer. However, I want to make this resource available to use as you think is appropriate. This is optional.
To use this, you need to sign up for your own account, as we do not have a class account. You create your parent account with one parent’s email address. Your student logs in with the parent email address, and their first name.

A new weekly bulletin will be posted every Sunday. You’ll find it on the Third Grade Classroom News page on the school website and on Seesaw, in the Inbox.
