Third Grade News and Homework for the Week of October 7, 2019

Today we celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.  In the month of October we will be learning the prayers and mysteries of the Rosary.  

The month will conclude with All Hallows Eve and then All Saints Day on November 1. Third Grade will be animating the Mass on All Saints Day. 

Today students have chosen a saint to research. Each student will dress as that saint for Mass on All Saints Day, Friday, November 1, at 11:00.

Reminders:

Swimming ends this week on Thursday! Last week to swim! Swimming will resume in the Spring.

Wednesday, October 9: Art at 8:30-10:00 AM

Friday, October 18:  Field Trip to see Seussical the Musical. Mrs. Hennessy will be driving in place of Mr. Rocha.  We will leave school for Santa Cruz at 8:00.

Friday, October 11: Assessment on Map Skills.  Study guides will be going home today or tomorrow.  

We start Multiplication and Division today. Please start memorizing your times table. We will be have math drills to reinforce memorization of multiplication table through 12.

Three day weekend: Monday, October 14, we celebrate Columbus Day.

Grammar: Nouns

Math: Multiplication and Division

Science: Energy and Matter

History: Immigration and Communities

Reading: Cricket in Times Square

First Trimester Ends on Wednesday, November 6.

Last Day to take AR test is Monday, November 4.

Homework for the Week of October 7, 2019

Spelling:Spelling focus this week is words with Short i. Please review your spelling pretest and study any words that are misspelled. Be ready to take the spelling assessment on Friday, October 11. Spelling packets are due on Friday, October 11.

Math: We have begun multiplications and Division.  Multiplication is repeated addition and division is repeated subtraction. Multiplication and Division are opposite operations. Our focus will be X0, X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, and X10. 

Monday 10/7: Exercise 3/pp. 72-75. Due tomorrow 10/8.

Tuesday 10/8: Exercise 6/pp. 81-83. Due tomorrow 10/9.

Wednesday 10/9: No Homework today because there will be a quiz today on multiplication. 

Thursday 10/10: Exercise 7/pp. 84-85 word problems. Due tomorrow 10/11.

Reading: Cricket in Times Square

All papers need to have a complete heading and questions need to be written in complete sentences. Please use the characters name and do not use personal pronouns when answering the questions.

Monday 10/7: Read chapter 6 and answer questions. 

Tuesday 10/8: Reread chapter 7 and 8 and answer questions.

Wednesday 10/9: Reread chapters 9 and answer questions.

Thursday 10/10: Read chapter 10 and answer questions.

Friday 10/11: There will be an assessment on chapters 6-10. 

Social Studies: Map Skills Assessment Thursday, October 10.

Project: Cricket Cages! Mario heads to Chinatown in New York City to find Chester a home, a cricket cage.  Students will make a cricket cage for Chester.  

Requirements: 

Must be made not purchased from a store.

Cages should not be more than 8 inches high or 6 inches wide.

Any and all material may be used to make the cricket cage. 

Be creative. Use stuff from around the house. Examples in the classroom from past students.

Due Date: Tuesday, October 15!!!  The Feast of St. Teresa of Avila.
