Salesian Home Learning Plan

In order to abide by the Covid-19 school mandates to start our 2020-21 school year with Home Learning (A method of study where teachers and students meet in classes online, using the Internet, e-mail, etc.; also called Distance-Learning.), we have organized our school's online learning as follows:

The same curriculum that is used in the classroom will be taught, with the purpose of meeting the California Standards, aligned with the mission of our Catholic schools.

Each day will begin with our traditional whole-school Morning Assembly:

  • Morning Assembly meets at 9 a.m.

  • Salesian School prayer

  • The Pledge of Allegiance

  • The Principal's Morning Message

TK-2nd grade:

  • Learning Platform: Seesaw

  • School will take place from 9 a.m.- 2:15, Monday-Friday.

  • Teachers will be present and available to students online from 9 a.m. to 2:15

  • TK-2nd grade will have a minimum of two hours of synchronous ("live" teacher present) learning every day (these two hours may be broken up into smaller increments throughout the day).

3rd-5th grade:

  • Learning Platform: Seesaw

  • Students will have synchronous learning from 9:15-1:45 Monday-Thursday.

  • Asynchronous (teacher present for student questions, but not teaching "live") learning activities will take place from 1:45-2:30

  • Fridays are for follow-up, office hours, check-in, etc. ("Follow-Up Fridays")

6th-8th grade (Jr. High):

  • Learning Platform: G-suite for Education

  • Teachers will be present and available to students online from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily.

  • Fridays are for follow-up, office hours, check-in, etc. ("Follow-Up Fridays")

All grades:

  • Breakout sessions (or small group activities): If a breakout session is planned, every student will have live contact with the teacher on the same day.

  • A Digital Citizenship curriculum will be incorporated into each student's schedule, to teach students about their Digital Footprint and responsible online presence, using the Common Sense Curriculum for Digital Citizenship

  • Digital Fluency is an important part of online learning; to this end, students will learn how to independently access their online classes.
