We are up and running in the Kinder!

I have been playing “Match Maker” trying to make sure that all have a buddy for lunch and a buddy for play! At play and meals, I do let the kids have free choice as long as they are eating well and playing friendly. Some kids even ask for space and that is good too, just not every day and every play. Learning to get along in a desk, on the floor, while at play, at meals and at church are all Kinder skills. At this time of year I try to keep frustration low and routine high. Sometimes they will be with a friend and sometimes they will be stretched to get along with a new partner or solo. While we play, we remind them that our playground is not a park. We have school rules that are different than your family’s rule. A good example is only going down the slide or only digging in our sandbox. Speaking of sandbox, we are so thankful to Mrs. Enright’s son for building us one this summer as his Eagle Scout project. Do you have any new or used sand toys to donate?

Speaking of meals, please make sure that your child is coming each day with a water bottle, with water. Please do NOT fill with milk, juice, etc. Also a simple but full lunch is much appreciated and needed. A main dish, fruit, veggies, healthy snacks are all great. When kids are sugar crashing or constipated it does not make them ready to learn in a group setting.

If you did not get a chance to do summer homework or check out the Kinder Readiness Lists (there are two) then it is still a good time to go to the bottom of this classroom website and check them out. There will be no homework until after Labor Day.

Daily we have been working on large and small motor skills at play and in the classroom. Now is the time to work on all those small skills like snaps, buttons, zippers, belts, coloring, cutting, tracing. It is also time to work on running, jumping, hopping, skipping and balance.

A big thank you to those that brought in the year’s worth of supplies and have donated to our class. We have a new kitchen set, magnets and some new books that all arrived to us since Back to School.

Lastly, any moms or dads that want to make phone calls about future field trips? I have some places and dates in mind.
