Attendance is posted at 8:00 a.m., on the 6th-grade Attendance Classroom.
Students sign in and the homeroom teacher takes attendance to submit to the School Office, daily.
9:00-9:45 Language Arts
Using their Vocabulary Workshop Level A books, students read and respond to new vocabulary words, create riddles for classmates to find the matching word, and take vocabulary quizzes. The Grammar for Writing book is used to work on grammar and writing skills (parts of speech, verb tense agreement, pronoun agreement, essay writing, writing a thesis statement, recognizing complete sentences versus sentence fragments, etc.). Students engaged in writing and public speaking skills by participating in a Making Sense of the Coronavirus project in which they produced vlogs and interviews over the course of Shelter-in-Place. Additionally, students were required to keep a Journal to reflect on their time Sheltering, which is being compiled into a Jr. High Reflection Book.

Given chapters of a text students have read (ex: The Giver by Lois Lowry), they discuss specific points, emphasizing literary elements: character, setting, plot structure, theme, foreshadowing, symbolism, etc.. Students are assessed on their comprehension and critical thinking skills. Various relevant online platforms are used to engage students further and supplement the topics discussed (Northern California Digital Library, Openlibrary.org, YouTube videos, author websites, etc.)
