Dear Salesian Family and Friends, July 2016
I want to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Fourth of July! Enjoy yourselves and thank the Lord for all His blessings! As we are in the middle of a fun-filled summer camp experience, I wanted to take a moment to send you our best wishes and prayers. I am sure you are enjoying your summer with family and friends. This is a special time to rest, relax, have fun and pray. It is important to get away from the routine of everyday and rejuvenate ourselves physically and spiritually. As Salesian Sisters we take a week every year to live a spiritual retreat. It is a beautiful time to spend in prayer, read good books and take time to evaluate the quality of our relationship with Jesus.
I invite you to do the same. I know that you have children and jobs and responsibilities but you can plan out some quiet time for you and Jesus. How? When? Consider making time early in the morning before the kids wake up or maybe late in the evening when the kids are in bed. If you use a little creativity you can do it. Maybe you can find a nice CD with a meditative rosary that you can listen to on your long drive to work or while running errands. I recommend any books on the life of St. Frances De Sales. St. John Bosco was greatly inspired by this wonderful saint who lived and shared a beautiful simple spirituality that colors much of our Salesian charism. He was a believer of the importance of “little virtues” and doing little things with love. We can become holy by simply fulfilling our duties with great love. This means that we gain merit when we are washing dishes, doing laundry, running errands for the family, etc. Let us keep in mind that the Lord loves us and wants only our happiness. Let us respond to that merciful love of God by fulfilling our duties with great love!
I also want to express our gratitude to Mrs. Alexis Meschi who has moved on in her educational experience and has taken a position at St. Francis High School. We wish her well. I am excited to share that Mrs. Vanessa Kehoe will now be the 8th grade homeroom teacher! She has a wealth of experience that can enrich our middle school program. I am also currently interviewing for the 1st grade position and the transitional kindergarten position. Please join me in prayer as we ask the Holy Spirit to guide this process. I look forward to seeing all of you very soon!
